Privacy & cookies

The short version: we never receive your files, we have no accounts and no analytics, and tool pages set no cookies.

Who is responsible

EgretPDF is run by Ankita, Surat, Gujarat, India. Ankita is the "controller" of the little personal data described below. Contact us about privacy at hello@egretpdf.com; the same address handles complaints and grievances under every law listed in this policy. See also our imprint.

Your files

When you choose a file, your browser reads it into memory on your device. All processing happens there, using code downloaded with the page. The result is handed straight back to you as a download. Files, passwords, signatures and certificates are never sent to EgretPDF or to anyone else, and they disappear when you close or reload the tab.

How this is enforced

Every tool page sets a Content-Security-Policy that only lets the page talk to this site, and only to load the site's own code and files. Your browser blocks any attempt to send data elsewhere. You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools on the Network tab while using a tool, or switch off your internet connection once a page has loaded. Every tool keeps working.

What is stored on your device

A few things are kept in your own browser so the site works. None of them are cookies, none are ever sent to us or anyone else, and none contain your files or anything about you:

• Recently used tools (local storage, key recent-tools). The names of the last six tools you opened, so the menu and home page can offer them again. Kept until you press Clear next to the list or clear the site's data.
• OCR language files (IndexedDB). The OCR tool keeps the text-recognition dictionary for each language you use (about 1–3 MB, downloaded from this site), so it is not downloaded again. Kept until you clear the site's data.
• Offline copy of the site (service worker cache). A copy of the site's pages and code, so the tools work without an internet connection. Replaced with each new version of the site.

These are used only to provide the service you asked for, which is why no consent banner is shown for them. You can remove all of them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

Cookies

EgretPDF sets no cookies at all: none for analytics, advertising, preferences or sign-in. If ads are added in the future, cookies will only be used on content pages, and only with your consent where the law requires it.

Personal data we process

• Server logs. Like every website, the hosting provider (Hostinger International Ltd. (Hostinger web hosting)) that delivers these pages processes technical data needed to do so, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. It is used only to deliver the site and keep it secure, is not combined with other data, and is kept for a short period set by the host (typically days to a few weeks). Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
• Emails you send us. Your address and whatever you write, used only to answer you. Kept while we deal with your message and deleted within 12 months after, unless the law requires longer. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you, or steps you asked us to take (Art. 6(1)(f) and (b)).

There are no accounts, no analytics and no newsletter. Tool pages load no third-party scripts, fonts or embeds of any kind. We do not sell personal data.

Advertising

EgretPDF currently shows no advertising and no advertising code is loaded anywhere. If that changes, ads will only ever appear on content pages (the home pages and guides), never on the pages where you work with files, and this policy will be updated before they start.

Where data is processed

Your files are processed only on your own device. Server logs are processed by our hosting provider, which may use servers in several countries; where data leaves the EEA or UK, the provider relies on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to its use, to receive a copy (portability), to withdraw consent at any time, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. Because we hold almost nothing about you, there is usually nothing to return. To make a request, email hello@egretpdf.com; we answer within one month (or sooner if your local law requires it). You can also complain to a data protection authority. In particular:

• EEA (GDPR) and UK (UK GDPR): your local supervisory authority, or the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
• California (CCPA/CPRA) and other US states: the rights to know, delete, correct and opt out of sale or sharing. You may use an authorised agent.
• Brazil (LGPD): the rights in Article 18, including confirmation, access, correction, anonymisation, deletion and information about sharing; complaints to the ANPD.
• India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023): the rights to a summary of your data, correction, erasure, grievance redressal (write to the address above) and to nominate someone; complaints to the Data Protection Board of India.
• Indonesia (Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection): the rights to information, access, correction, deletion and to withdraw consent.

Children

EgretPDF is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children (under 13 in the US under COPPA, under 18 in India, or the age set by local law). If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS, with security headers that stop other sites from framing it and stop tool pages from sending data anywhere. Because your files are never uploaded, there is no store of documents that could be breached.

Changes

If this policy changes, for example because ads are switched on or we add an optional feature that needs a server, we will update this page and the date above before the change takes effect. Server-based features will always be clearly labelled.
