Redact PDF: questions and answers

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is opened and changed by code running in your own browser tab. The page is locked so it cannot send data to any server, and nothing is kept once you close the tab.

Is the covered text really removed?

Yes. Each page with a box is redrawn as a flat image with the box burnt in, so the original text, images and links on that page are no longer in the file. Pages without boxes are kept as they are.

Why can I no longer select text on redacted pages?

Because they are now images. Run OCR PDF on the result to make them searchable again.

What happens to links, bookmarks and form fields?

So that nothing can point back to removed content, links, comments and bookmarks are dropped and form answers become plain text. The rest of each page stays exactly as it was.
