How to edit a PDF: add text, images, shapes and signatures

By Ankita · Published

Most PDF edits are small: fill in a blank, add a note, cover a mistake, insert a logo or sign at the bottom. You do not need expensive software for any of them.

What you can do

Edit PDF opens your document with three sets of tools:

  1. Edit & Annotate: type new text, draw freehand, highlight, add rectangles, circles, lines, arrows and ticks, insert pictures, or white out something you want to hide.
  2. Fill & Sign: type into form fields, add your signature, initials or the date.
  3. Organize pages: reorder pages, turn them, copy or delete them, or add blank pages.

Step by step

  1. Open Edit PDF and add your document.
  2. Pick a tool at the top, then click or drag on the page.
  3. Click anything you added to move, resize, restyle or delete it. Undo with Ctrl+Z.
  4. Press Save changes and download the edited PDF.

Changing the existing text

The editor adds new content on top of the page. To rewrite paragraphs that are already in the PDF, convert it with PDF to Word, edit the text there and convert it back with Word to PDF.

Hiding information for good

White-out and shapes cover content, but the text underneath can still be copied. For names, account numbers or anything confidential, use Redact PDF, which removes the content from the file permanently.
