How to sign a PDF online without printing it

Published

Printing a contract, signing it with a pen and scanning it back is slow and makes a blurry copy. You can sign the PDF itself in about a minute, and your signature stays on your device.

Step by step

  1. Open Sign PDF and add the document.
  2. Create your signature: draw it with your mouse or finger, type your name, or upload a photo of your signature.
  3. Click the page where the signature goes, then drag and resize it until it sits on the line.
  4. Add the date or your initials the same way if the document asks for them.
  5. Press Sign PDF and save the signed copy.

Getting a clean signature from paper

Sign a blank white sheet with a dark pen and take a photo in good light. When you upload it, the tool can remove the white background, so only the ink appears on the document instead of a grey box.

Electronic or digital signature?

Sign PDF adds an electronic signature: a picture of your signature placed on the page. Many everyday agreements, such as rental forms, school forms and delivery notes, accept it.

Some businesses and governments require a digital signature instead. That uses a certificate file (.p12 or .pfx) and lets PDF readers confirm who signed and that nothing changed afterwards. For that, use the Digital signature tool. If you are unsure which one you need, ask the person who sent you the document.

Forms with fields to fill in

If the PDF has boxes for your name and address, open Fill PDF form first to type into them, then sign. Edit PDF does both in one place.
